The introduction of fencing game in District Kupwara took a monumental step forward with an initiative by the 12 Sikhli at AGS Raghavan, Chountiwari, in Machil Valley. This pioneering effort saw enthusiastic participation from students, resulting in a strong performance at the district level, where 27 young athletes qualified for the state-level competition. Of these, 20 competed at the state level, and one outstanding student, Mir Shafat Shafi, achieved the remarkable milestone of qualifying for the national level.

This success highlights the dedication and expertise of coaches Mr. Harvir Singh and Mr. Sharooq Ahmad, whose commitment has been instrumental in guiding and preparing these emerging athletes. The disciplined training regimen and focused approach provided by AGS Raghavan played a pivotal role in this achievement. With this promising start, the initiative opens doors for more students to excel in future competitions and perhaps even represent India on an international stage.

In a resounding testament to perseverance, discipline, and youthful ambition, the students of Army Goodwill School (AGS) Raghavan delivered a stellar performance at the Gen Bipin Rawat Fencing Championship Trophy🏆 2025 fencing competition, bringing pride not only to their institution but also to the wider region of Jammu & Kashmir. Their achievement is noteworthy not only for the medals won, but for the message it sends about how sporting dreams can take shape in far‑flung and rural settings.

The Gen Bipin Rawat Fencing Championship Trophy🏆  

Fencing Event, held from October 3 to 5, 2025, at the Vajr Fencing Node in Kupwara, was organised under the aegis of the Chinar Corps (Sadbhavana Project) in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Fencing Association (JKFA). 

Named in honour of General Bipin Rawat (India’s first Chief of Defence Staff), the championship seeks to not only commemorate his legacy but also to channel his values of leadership, discipline, and unity into the youth of the region. 

The event drew participation from 8 teams/districts from across Jammu & Kashmir, providing a competitive platform for emerging fencers to test their skills and be inspired by peers. 

The venue itself the Vajr Fencing Node has become a focal point in the region’s sporting infrastructure. Earlier this year it hosted district-level competitions and training camps under the Khelo India movement and CSR support, and this championship marked a definitive step in its maturation as a centre of fencing excellence.

At the culmination of intense bouts over the three days, AGS Raghavan emerged as the Runner-Up team, second only to the district team of Udhampur, which took the top honours. This itself is a commendable feat given the competitive field.

When the final standings were declared, AGS Raghavan emerged as Runner-Up, just behind Udhampur. The moment was bittersweet. But in that moment too, the young fencers of Raghavan felt a surge of pride: that from a border region, through daily grit, they had reached the upper echelons of competition.

In the corridors of AGS, Principal Mr Tariq Ahmad smiled with quiet satisfaction. Teacher Sharooq Ahmad felt his heart swell. Coaches exchanged nods.
